Work on Basics
First of all you need to brush up your basics. The aspirants should have deep knowledge of the subject, excellent verbal ability and quantitative aptitude. CAT tests these abilities through logical & analytical reasoning and data interpretation. Rigorous preparation with thorough understanding of the subject matter and a cool minded approach is readily needed.
You need to understand the general pattern of exam which will give you an idea about number and type of questions that are asked, weightage etc. Over the past years quant section was dominated by Algebra, Arithmetic and Numbers/Geometry. It would be better for the aspirants to focus on the above mentioned topics. This will help to minimize wrong attempts during exam.
Computer-based test of three hours,
100 objective type questions which includes multiple choice and non-multiple choice,
No. of questions in verbal and reading comprehensive and quant section is 34,
No. of questions in Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section is 32 and
Each section is time bound, allotted time is one hour.
Marking scheme: Each question carries three marks, negative marking of 1 mark on each wrong answer. There will be no negative marking for unattempted questions or non- multiple choice questions.
Analyzing CAT Mocks is an essential element of preparation strategy. Practicing mocks will undoubtedly help aspirants to understand their areas of strength and then they can plan a strategy accordingly. Students must attend the mock papers numerous times from various institutes and that will definitely be helpful in facing final exam.
After appearing in mocks spend good amount of time on their analysis.
